What is an evaporative air cooler?

An evaporative air cooler, also known as an air cooler, cools the air with evaporating water. It works without a compressor and without refrigerant.

How does an air cooler work?

A fan draws in warm air and passes it over a wet cooling pad. The water evaporates and draws heat out of the air. The cooled air then flows into the room.

How much electricity does a GoodCooling air cooler use?

That depends on the model. According to the data sheet, the Y5 needs 0.2 kW, and the Y20 and Y30 need 1.1 kW each. For the Y30, the data sheet gives roughly €1.65 in electricity costs for ten operating hours at full load. According to the manufacturer, the Y20 and Y30 use up to 90 per cent less electricity than air conditioners.

Which area are the models suited to?

The GoodCooling Y5 is designed for areas of 40 to 60 m², the Y20 and Y30 for 150 to 250 m². The figures come from the data sheets.

Does an air cooler also work in humid, muggy heat?

Only to a limited extent. The more humid the air, the weaker the cooling effect, because less water evaporates. An air cooler works best in dry heat and in well-ventilated rooms.

Does an air cooler need an exhaust hose?

No. An air cooler does not release heat outdoors; it cools by evaporation. Indoors, ventilate regularly so that moisture does not build up.

Can I use an air cooler outdoors?

Yes. According to the product description, the GoodCooling models are suitable for indoor and outdoor use, for example on terraces, at events or in open halls.

Frequently asked
questions

Short answers about GoodCooling units, delivery and service.

How does the GoodCooling cooling unit work?

Our units cool the air using a simple, natural process known as the adiabatic process: water is filled into the tank and a pump distributes it over the natural honeycomb cellulose filter. Warm air is drawn through the filter, and as the water evaporates it draws heat from the air – cool, fresh, clean air comes out.

How sustainable are the units?

Our units reduce the CO₂ footprint and are equipped with highly efficient technology to save water and energy – ideal for sustainable cooling. The air is also cleaned of particles.

Can outdoor areas be cooled too?

Thanks to our innovative technology, our units can be used indoors and outdoors. Indoors, you get the best results even with open windows and doors.

What are the running costs?

Running costs vary depending on the model and use. For example, the Y15's water consumption costs approx. €0.32*, and the Y20's electricity consumption at full load costs approx. €1.65 for 10 hours.

How long does delivery take?

We generally have enough units in stock. For larger orders, allow a delivery time of 2–6 working days.

Are delivery costs included in the purchase price?

The price excludes delivery costs. These depend on the delivery zone and are calculated in the cart. For collection: Breitenleerstraße 77, 1220 Vienna, Mon–Fri 8:00 am–4:00 pm.

How do I clean my GoodCooling unit?

On our Service & Downloads page you will find cleaning instructions and data sheets for all models (Y5, Y15, Y20, Y30).
