Cleaning & descaling (all models)
Our illustrated step-by-step guide below shows the descaling process using the GoodCooling Y5 as an example. The procedure is essentially the same for all GoodCooling models – only the amount of descaler needed depends on your model's water tank size. How often do I need to descale my GoodCooling unit?
How often descaling is needed depends mainly on the water hardness in your region and how intensively the unit is used. With hard tap water, limescale builds up on the honeycomb cellulose filter and in the water tank faster than with soft water. Check the water tank and filter regularly for visible limescale deposits and descale promptly when necessary – you will find the illustrated step-by-step guide further up this page.
Which descaler do I need, and how much?
You can use a standard descaler suitable for household appliances. The amount needed depends on your model's water tank size – larger models such as the Y20 or Y30 need correspondingly more descaler than more compact units such as the Y5 or Y15. How do I clean the honeycomb cellulose filter properly?
Carefully remove the honeycomb cellulose filter from the unit and rinse it with clear, lukewarm water to remove loose limescale and dirt particles. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or solvents, as these can damage the filter material. Then let the filter dry completely before reinserting it and putting the unit back into operation.

Correct positioning – step by step
For the best cooling performance, the right location matters: place your GoodCooling unit as close as possible to an open door, a window or facing the part of the room you want to cool, leaving enough distance from the wall for free airflow. Fill the water tank completely, plug the unit into a standard household socket and it is ready to use.
Tips for optimal airflow
To let the cool, fresh air circulate optimally in the room, we recommend opening opposite windows or doors slightly – this creates a natural draught that carries the warm air outside. In closed rooms, ideally position the unit so that the airflow is directed straight at the occupied area.
