GoodCooling Y5, Y15, Y20 or Y30: Which Evaporative Air Cooler Is Right for You?

Anyone who wants to buy an evaporative air cooler from GoodCooling has a choice of four models: Y5, Y15, Y20 and Y30. This comparison summarises the most important differences. All values come from the data sheets or the product pages.

The models at a glance

Model Area Power Water tank Weight
Y5 40–60 m² 0.2 kW 45 litres 26 kg
Y15 100–150 m² see product page see product page 44 kg
Y20 150–250 m² 1.1 kW 300 litres 84 kg
Y30 150–250 m² 1.1 kW 130 litres 50 kg

Y5: the compact appliance for smaller areas

The Y5 is designed for areas of 40 to 60 m², moves up to 4,800 m³ of air per hour according to the data sheet, and needs only 0.2 kW. At 26 kg it is the lightest model. According to the data sheet, the 45-litre tank lasts for around 5.5 hours of operation. It is suitable for sales rooms, small workshops or well-ventilated offices.

Y15: the mid-range model

According to the product page, the Y15 cools areas of 100 to 150 m². It weighs 44 kg, measures 92 × 58 × 151 cm and runs at 65 dB. This makes it suitable for hospitality, events and larger offices. You will find all further data on the Y15 product page.

Y20 and Y30: for halls and large areas

The Y20 and Y30 are both designed for 150 to 250 m² and each has a power rating of 1.1 kW. The difference lies mainly in tank and weight: the Y20 offers 300 litres of water at 84 kg, the Y30 130 litres at 50 kg. For the Y30, the data sheet gives around €1.65 in electricity costs for ten operating hours at full load. According to the manufacturer, both models use up to 90% less electricity than air conditioners. More on this in the electricity cost comparison.

How to choose the right model

  1. Area and room height: Use the area figures as a guide. An appliance that is clearly too small will cool too little.
  2. Air exchange: Evaporative cooling works best in ventilated rooms, see Evaporative air coolers and humidity.
  3. Mobility: If you move the appliance often, weight matters.
  4. Water: A larger tank means less frequent refilling, but more weight.
